More than 300,000 Covid shots given so far, minister says

A total of 95,095  health workers across Mexico received a Covid-19 shot on Thursday, January 14, Deputy Health Minister Hugo Lopez-Gatell confirmed at his regular evening press conference.

pg6bHe said 329,983 people in Mexico have been given the vaccine since the inoculation program started last week.

That is equivalent to around 0.2 percent of the population of Mexico. In contrast, by January 13 the United States had vaccinated 3.3 percent of its population, administering 10,788,700 shots – just ahead of China at 9 million.

Meanwhile, the United Kingdom has vaccinated 4.6 percent of its population, Canada 1.1 percent, Germany 0.91 percent and France 0.37 percent.   

On January 13, Lopez-Gatell revealed that 360 people have presented adverse symptoms after receiving the Pfizer dose, of which only 12 were considered serious.

President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador pointed out that Mexico is the first Latin American nation to start an inoculation program, and only 12 countries have administered more shots.
