After criticizing social networking platforms for suspending the accounts of U.S. President Donald Trump, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said he might create a national social network guaranteeing freedom of speech in this country.
He called Twitter and Facebook “global institutions of censorship,” comparing their actions to “the Spanish Inquisition.”
In the final days of his presidency, Trump, who has called his banishment from social media “a big mistake,” lavished praise on Lopez Obrador during a visit to the U.S. southern border Tuesday to highlight his unfinished and costly border wall. He congratulated his “friend” for deploying 27,000 Mexican soldiers to halt the flow of Central American migrants to the United States.
