New US envoy takes over

Ken Salazar’s tenure as U.S. ambassador to Mexico began formally September 13, when he “presented his credentials” to Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

Prior to that encounter, the former U.S. Secretary of the Interior and his wife Hope paid a visit to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, to attend Mass and, as he tweeted later, “to pray for our two countries.”

Salazar said he was pleased to have arrived in Mexico just in time for the independence  celebrations. “It is beautiful to see the streets come alive in green, white and red,” he said. “I am proud of my family’s Mexican heritage, which dates back centuries. Viva Mexico!”
