National Guard sniffer dog foils marijuana traffickers

A keen-nosed canine assigned to a Jalisco National Guard (GN) unit is credited with the recent detection of two separate loads of marijuana held at parcel shipping warehouses located in Ixtlahuacán de los Membrillos.

pg7aThe first bust, revealed on January 28, involved the interception of 210 kilos of cannabis that was in transit to a private address in the state of Coahuila. After being admitted to the shipping company premises, the trained sniffer dog signaled an alert to a large wooden container holding a metal boiler where the soldiers found 21 bundles of dope wrapped up in clear protective plastic and tan tape and smeared outside with used oil.

The confiscated weed and containers were turned over to authorities at the Jalisco branch of the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office (FGR) for further investigation.

The same K9 shepherd was apparently responsible for the second drug trafficking interception in Ixtlahuacán reported February 10. This time, the dog sniffed out a pair of armchairs that were en route from Tepic, Nayarit to Mexico City. The GN troops found two taped bundles inside the chairs containing a total of 70 packages of a grass-like substance presumed to be marijuana. The evidence was again turned over to the FGR for verification and weight of the contents.
