Israeli embassy upset at war crimes request

The Israeli embassy in Mexico says its regrets the decision taken by the governments of Mexico and Chile, asking the International Criminal Court to investigate the possible commission of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

“As the statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicates, Hamas terrorists committed crimes on October 7, 2023 and continue to carry out terrorist attacks,” the embassy said in a statement. “Remember that 136 people remain kidnapped, violating international laws and in complete denial of their rights ... Israel hopes that the international community will condemn the terrorist attack against civilians and express its clear support for the full right to self-defense.”

pg4aMexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador didn’t comment on the war crimes request but said a ceasefire must be agreed upon soon: “We can’t be insensitive, there are already more than 20,000 dead. We must seek peace,” he said on January 18.
