Peter Terry Osburn

Former Ajijic resident Peter Terry Osburn died in Miami, Florida on October 19 at the age of 68.

Born May 31, 1943 in Detroit, Michigan, Osburn attended the University of Connecticut and had a life-long career as a private investigator.

He first moved to Ajijic in 1974 with his wife Suzanne and their young family. His parents, longtime Ajijic residents June Terry and Joe Osburn, were founding members of the Lake Chapala Society.

Peter Osburn moved his family to New York City in 1975 and then to Beaufort , North Carolina in 1984. Besides working as an investigator there, he opened a restaurant and an inn in Beaufort. His lifelong passions were sailing and watching sunsets, wherever he was.

The Osburns retired in 1999 and moved back to Ajijic. Suzanne died in 2005. Peter remarried in 2006 and moved back to the United States in 2007.

He is survived by his wife Jackie Osburn of Miami, daughter Samantha Rice (husband Bill) of Beaufort and son Jonathan Osburn (wife Diana) of Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts and Naples, Florida. He had five grandchildren: Parker Osburn and Alex, Janie, Daniel and Jonathan Rice. His sister, Terry Osburn lives in Taos, New Mexico and Oaxaca, Mexico.
