Terrance V. Lorette

Terrence “Terry” V. Lorette died at his Rancho del Oro home on December 8 at the age of 65.

Born April 6, 1946 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Lorette moved to Toronto in the 1960s to attend the University of Toronto. Later he was hired out of university to work for the Honeywell Corporation in Montreal.

That first job started his passion for everything to do with computers. Lorette returned to Toronto in 1975 to start up the Sensormatic Canada Company and managed that organization for 13 years. He developed several business concepts, such as condo/corporate building private cable systems and big-screen/multi screen advertising in malls and clubs, before deciding on a simpler business operation, becoming an independent computer and software specialist concentrating on database development and management and small business and non-profit organization system administration.

Lorette faced a major challenge in 2004, beating and surviving oral cancer. It took its toll, however, forcing him to live on a diet of pureed food for the rest of his life.

Lorette and his wife Linda Hendy visited the Lake Chapala area in February 2008, and settled in Ajijic in November of that year.  Lorette found everything he loved: golf, sunshine, gardening, hiking and helping a myriad of people needing a computer guru. He continued to work remotely from Mexico, assisting clients in Toronto until the week he died.

Those who knew Lorette were continually amazed at his passion for anything he undertook. A voracious reader, he absorbed information like a sponge and then shared that knowledge with anyone who wanted to listen and learn. He always saw the “big picture” and when he was set on a direction, nothing got in his way.

Lorette is survived by his wife and soul mate, Linda, three daughters, Kimberly Berry (husband Paul), Britt Ashley Lorette (Tim Angus) and Taylor Lorette. He had two sisters, Judie White (Tom) and Shelley Gullett. His lifelong friends were Stephen and Mary Ellen Rushworth. Lorette had tremendous gratitude for the love and support from his network of friends and extended family throughout this past year – in particular George Bell, Allan Farmer, Elena Cooper and Marita Adams. His family sends a special thank you to Dr. Gerardo Leon and his team for all the support throughout this last journey.

Memoriam donations to the charity of Lorette’s choice, Pasos Milagrosos are welcomed. For details see the website: www.pasosmilagroso.com or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
