Elisabeth (Lis) Sunderland

Ajijic resident Elisabeth (Lis) Sunderland died February 1 at the age of 69.

Born May 10, 1942 in Marysville, Kansas, Sunderland moved to Kansas City with her husband in the early 1960s, where she enjoyed a long career in information technology, beginning as a programmer and concluding by serving as director of IT for a variety of mid-sized, local companies.  Later in her career, she founded NthWorks Technologies, where she provided a variety of IT consulting and web design/hosting services.

After retiring in 2006, Sunderland moved to Ajijic along with her husband, daughter and grandson.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew her for her free spirit, quick wit, vibrant personality, and down-to-earth attitude on life.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Harold (Harry) Sunderland of Ajijic; son Michael Sunderland of Plano, Texas; daughter Shelly Sunderland-Trobough of Ajijic; son Scott Sunderland of Pleasant Hill, California; sister Molly Rollison of Bethel, Connecticut; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

In lieu of a memorial service, the family invites friends to a special toast to Sunderland, which will be held at Tom’s Bar in Ajijic on Saturday, February 11, 5 p.m.
