Gordon Wright

Gordon Wright of Chapala died on February 8 at the age of 77.

Born February 23, 1935 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Wright worked as a commercial fisherman in Canada for 25 years. He was forced to change career when his hearing deficiency had grown to the point as to be a danger to himself and the crew on the fishing boat. He was then hired by Revenue Canada.

Wright first came to the Lake Chapala area 14 years ago and spent winters in the same casita through that time. He loved Mexico and told friends that he would love to live here year round except that he needed to be able to use his Canadian medical coverage. He spent summers in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Wright was a member of the Lake Chapala Duplicate Bridge Club. He was delighted with the way his game was going and just prior to his death said that he expected to place first maybe once a month during his annual five-month stay at Lakeside.

Wright loved walking the Chapala malecon with his landlady’s dog, Duke, who adored him.

He is survived by his brother Hume, three nieces, Susan, Kathy and Marie Ellen and a nephew, Terry, all of British Columbia.

Wright will be missed by a long list of friends throughout Lakeside, in San Miguel de Allende and at his bridge club in Vancouver.
