Gerry Krause

Lakeside resident Gerald “Gerry” Raymond Krause died at his Chapala Haciendas home on July 15 at the age of 71.

Born March 17, 1941 in Wyandott, Wayne County, Michigan, Krause grew up in Detroit, Michigan. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and attended the University of California. He worked for 30 years as a railroad engineer and later in sales, selling cars, yachts and airplanes.

Krause moved to the Lakeside area in 2002 and soon became a popular painter of abstract and surreal paintings. He built his current home in Chapala Haciendas and was acquainted with many Mexican families. A founder of the successful Diane Pearl Colecciones gallery, he aided other artists on their trajectories. He cared for five rescued dogs and two cats.

Krause is survived by a daughter, Audrey Krause of Michigan, and two sons, Victor and Todd Krause of California. His brother Tom Krause lives in California. He is also survived by his companion of several years, Teresita Ruiz of Lakeside.

Many will miss his quick wit and strong high-energy character. He was a loving and generous man to those close to him.
