Joseph Paul Sutor

Lakeside resident Joseph Paul Sutor died at his Ajijic home on July 21 after a long, brave struggle with cancer. He was 67 years old.

Sutor was born January 31, 1945 in La Porte, Indiana. He was active in the athletic program of La Porte High School. He received a full football-scholastic scholarship to Indiana University, where he received honorable mention in the All-American awards. He graduated in 1969.

Sutor was a director of transportation operations for a company in Chicago for 30 years.

He married his beloved wife Carol in 1981 and the couple moved to Florida in 1995, where they worked in the real estate industry. They moved to Ajijic in 20007.

Joseph was an avid fisherman and gardener. He belonged to the Garden Growers’ Group and was an active member of Abundant Life Church. He also served as president of the La Huerta fraccionamiento and helped rewrite the sub-division’s by-laws.

He is survived by his wife Carol, of Ajijic, and daughters Jessica Nickrasz of Riverside, Illinois, Kristen Lezine of Tarpon Springs, Florida and Stephanie Rotunda of Parker, Colorado. His son, Brian Sutor, lives in New York City. His grandsons are Jack Nickrasz and Kaden, Jett and Cruz Rotunda.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 11, 2 p.m. at Abundant Life Assembly of God Church, located on the Chapala-Jocotepec carretera #140 (next to Mailboxes Etc.).
