Carmen Leticia Galvez de Montes

Lakeside resident Carmen Leticia “Lety” Galvez de Montes died after a long and brave struggle with cancer on August 12. She was 37 years old. She was born July 21, 1975, in Chapala and attended Preparatoria there until her last two years of school, when she finished high school in Oakland, California.

She married Francisco Montes March 4, 2000 and often joined him in his work managing the SuperLake Market in San Antonio Tlayacapan. She was the operator of the Café Duo in San Antonio Tlayacapan from 2001 to 2005 and, until a few weeks ago, sold vegetables at the Farmers’ Market.

She is survived by her husband, Francisco Montes and two sons, Jesus Osvaldo Montes and Francisco Carol Montes. Her parents, Carmen Ursua and Francisco Galvez and brothers Francisco, Salvador, Juan, Gustavo and Miguelangel Galvez Ursua and sisters Alma Rosa, Laura, Irma and Marta Galvez Ursua all survive her, as well.

A Funeral Mass was held for her on Monday, August 13, at the Church of San Francisco in Chapala. The last day of the Novenario (the ninth day of the Rosary) will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 22, 8 p.m. at the family home at San Jose 245-A in San Antonio Tlayacapan.

Her strength and grace during her illness were an inspiration to all who knew her, and they will miss her.
