Katherine Ann Weygandt

Katherine Ann “Kathy” Weygandt died in a local clinic on August 8. She was 69 years old.

Weygandt was born January 13, 1943, in Hawthorn, California. She moved to Lakeside, settling first in Riberas del Pilar and then Ixtlahuacan in 1991. She was well-known in the area for her kindness to animals. She rescued everything from chickens to horses, and was often referred to as “Horse Kathy” or the “Horse Lady.” She had a rough and tough “maverick” exterior, but was soft hearted and kind to everyone she met.

She is survived by a sister, Charlene Adams of Marysville, California. Her daughter, Kathleen, predeceased her.

Though homes have been found for her horses and other animals, five of her dogs remain homeless. They are calm, healthy and spayed or neutered, house broken, are current on their vaccinations and range in age from two years to eight years old. Anyone interested in adopting one of these precious canines should call 765-4916.
