Nancy Savon

Longtime Lakeside resident Nancy Cheney Savon died in her Ajijic home on August 26 at the age of 68.

Born July 12, 1944 in Baltimore, Maryland and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Savon was a 1966 graduate of Mundelein College in Chicago and a member of Mensa. She furthered her education at the University of Michigan.

Savon worked in Chicago, New York and Dallas. Her expertise was in developing multi-media training programs for the employees of major companies, including Con-Ed, Alco Corp., Burlington Ind., Xerox, the Social Security Administration and many others. She founded her own consulting firm, Cheney and Associates, in 1978.

She met the love of her life, Don Savon, in 1988. They married in 1992 and moved to Ajijic upon their retirement in 1996. She has owned and operated a long-distance “call-back” service so familiar to old-time expats for more than a decade.

Savon loved almost everything about Mexico, especially the people and the food. The Savons also adored Manzanillo and spent a lot of time there through the years, especially during the winter months. They have many friends in that area, as well as in Ajijic.

Savon is survived by her husband, Don of Ajijic, a cousin, Judy Moore of Los Angeles, and Don’s five children, their spouses and ten grandchildren.

According to her friends, Savon never met a stranger, and if she talked to a fence post, it would talk back. Her ready smile and gracious manner will be sorely missed by her family and many friends.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no memorial service.
