James McCormack

Lake Chapala area resident James Crawford “Jim” McCormack died Wednesday, September 5 after a short illness at the age of 80.

Born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada on July 18, 1932, McCormack was raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where he spent most of his working career in the fine paper industry. Retiring from his own company, JCM Paper Source, in 1998, he and his wife Caroline moved to Lakeside.

McCormack was very active in community life. He was a sports enthusiast and a dedicated volunteer. He worked for several children’s charities during his years at lakeside, including Niños Incapacitados. He ran the Handicapped Children’s Horseback Riding Program for more than eight years.

McCormack was also a dedicated volunteer for more than 13 years at the Lake Chapala Society’s Children’s Art Program. He was an accomplished oil painter and won several Ajijic Society of the Arts awards over the years.

McCormack is survived by his wife Caroline, his three children, Michael McCormack of Canmore, Alberta, Carol Lee McCormack and her spouse Leonard Plunkett of Fort McPherson, Northwest Territories and Peter McCormack of Vancouver, B.C. His sister Vivienne lives in Clear Lake, California with her spouse William Moen. He had two granddaughters, Megan and Julia and a nephew, Tim and niece, Heather.

Jim was a wonderful husband, father, brother and a friend to many. He will be missed.
