Carol Cheatham

Longtime Ajijic resident Carol Lynn Cheatham died at home on October 1 at the age of 60.

Born November 23, 1951 in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, Cheatham graduated from Mt. Clemens High School in 1969 and married George Cheatham III, whom she had met in school.

The young couple made their first home along the edge of the St. Clair River and shared their interests in boating, antique cars, drag racing, cat shows and crossing the Blue Water Bridge to enjoy Sarnia, Ontario and curling with their friends there. Cheatham worked as an insurance investigator for many years.

Carol and George discovered Ajijic after traveling to Mexico in the late 1990s. They heard of Chapala and decided to take a side trip from Puerto Vallarta with friends. Several visits later they found the perfect place to call home. They purchased a home and made the move to Ajijic in August 2001.

Carol’s parents, Floyd and Evelyn Reinhold, moved to Ajijic to be with the Cheathams in 2002 and lived there until they passed away in 2005 and 2006.

Cheatham enjoyed her time with friends and taking trips to the beach, staying at beautiful hotels and always looking for new shopping and dining experiences.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, George Cheatham of Ajijic.

Close friends of Cheatham gathered at the family site in Ajijc’s municipal cemetery on November 2.
