John Frank Corbeil

Lakeside resident John Frank Corbeil died March 13 in a Guadalajara hospital at the age of 72.

Corbeil was born February 28, 1941 in Montreal, Quebec. He served his country in the Medical Corps of the Canadian Airborne Regiment.

Corbeil returned to college after his military service and graduated from the University of Calgary in 1973. He taught high school geography and social studies in Ohotok, Alberta, moving to Victoria, British Columbia in 1989, where he owned a recyling business.

He moved to Mexico and the Lakeside area in 2009 and brought with him his life-long passion for rugby (he played and coached) and joined the Tlaquepaque Rhinos Rugby Club.

Corbeil was a charter member of the Royal Canadian Legion Lake Chapala Branch 1.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary Beth “Sam” of Chapala, son Patrick Corbeil of Kingston, Ontario, daughters Jennifer Corbeil of Edmonton, Alberta and Jill Corbeil of Sweden.

His sisters Linda Corbeil and Diane Dippel live in Calgary, Alberta and his brother, Michael Corbeil (wife Cindy) live in Phuket, Thailand.  He had five grandchildren.

A memorial service was held for Corbeil on March 21 at American Legion Post Seven in Chapala.

His many friends, Mexican and foreign, will miss his sense of fun and humor.
