Obituary - October 8, 2016

Malcolm Everett McElroy died September 27 at a Guadalajara hospital.

Born in Rose Valley, Saskatchewan on March 7, 1934, McElroy attended the University of Saskatchewan and graduated in 1956 with a BSC in Petroleum Engineering.

pg10McElroy worked for California Standard Oil Company in Calgary, Alberta and Virden, Manitoba before taking a job with Dome Petroleum in Calgary in 1959.

He left after ten years and became head of Petroleum Technology at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Calgary. He then joined Acroll Petroleum and worked there until he started his own consulting company which took him to the Caribbean island of Barbados. After three years there and with oil prices at ten dollars per barrel, McElroy decided to make a career change. He then enjoyed a ten-year stint in the securities business as a stockbroker.

After he retired in 2000, McElroy and his wife Donna sold everything and moved to Ajijic.

Hockey was McElroy’s first love and he was a dedicated Calgary Flames fan.

McElroy was a member of the Aijijic Masonic Lodge and was a Shriner. He was also a member of the Lake Chapala Duplicate Bridge Club and St. Andrew’s Anglican church.

McElroy was a caring, loving husband and father with a wonderful sense of humor who cared deeply about his fellow man.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Donna; daughter Brenda (Joe) of San Juan Cosala; daughter Janice (Neels) of Port Elizabeth, South Africa; son Ross (Soheila) of Kelowna, British Columbia; grandsons Jonathan (Jennifer) Vizcarra of Kelowna, B.C., and Aquiles Vizcarra of Cuidad Valles, San Luis Potosi; and granddaughters Lareina McElroy of Edmonton, Alberta and Elyse McElroy of Kelowna, B.C.
