Marilyn Christopher

Marilyn “Lynn” Christopher died November 21 at Mia Casita Nursing Home at the age of 89.

Christopher was born September 21, 1927 in Hamburg, Pennsylvania to Franklin Myrick and Mildred Hartmann.

In 1949, she married “Mac” MacDonald, who died later that year in the line of duty.

Christopher then studied at Parsons School of Design in New York City. The following year she received a scholarship to Parsons School of Design in Paris, France.  In 1952, Christopher visited Mexico City where she met “Muff” Mayo, who remained a long-time friend.  Together they opened a successful boutique in the Mexican capital.  Among their favored customers was actress Goldie Hawn.

In the late 1970’s Christopher returned to Hamburg to care for her parents.  Here she perfected her watercolors of birds, enjoying success as an artist and also as a dog groomer. She married John Christopher in 1977 and the couple retired to Ajijic in 1998.

Christopher was predeceased by her husband and is survived by his children: Jeffery, Daniel and Susan, all living in Pennsylvania, their children and many cousins, including Lee Kristofs of Ajijic.

David Anthony White

David Anthony White died peacefully at his home in Cielovista on November 16.

White was born in Toronto, Ontario on September 17, 1941. Because of family circumstances, he left school early and went to work to help out at home.

He met Janet Durward at work, in the same office in Toronto. They were married September 10, 1966.  The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year.

White began work as a buyer for Coca Cola Canada. After a number of years in this position, he was invited to join the Ontario Easter Seal Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting disabled children. Over the following years, he was asked to assume executive positions for other non-profit organizations. These organizations included The Canadian Hearing Society, The Canadian Rehabilitation Council for the Disabled and The Autism Society of Canada.

David and Jan first came to Ajijic in 2000 and liked what they saw. They returned a few times and in 2006 spent the winter here. They retired permanently to Ajijic in March 2008.

White was a volunteer for Lakeside Little Theatre, where he helped to build sets. He also volunteered with Operation Compassion, the soup kitchen in San Antonio.  White was instrumental in having St. Andrew’s Anglican Church collect non-perishable food every Sunday, which he would then take each week to the soup kitchen.

His gentle nature, kindness, quiet wisdom, and – not to be forgotten – abundant sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.

White is survived by his wife, son Matthew (Sarah), son Adam (Jessica), brother Bruce, and his beloved grandchildren: Pierson, Charlotte, Carder, Susie and Stewart.
