John Brownlee Ross

John (Jack) Brownlee Ross passed away quietly in the comfort of his home in Ajijic Sunday, April 29.

pg10Jack was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on March 31, 1931 to a loving family.  After finishing high school at age 14, he served a five-year apprenticeship as a cabinet maker. He then did two years of National Service in England and Germany with the Royal Air Force.

Jack emigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1957. There, he married, had a family and built a successful business. In 1973 the family moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia where he started over and built up a contracting business. He also bought, renovated and sold properties in Halifax and Florida.

An avid ballroom dancer, Jack studied international ballroom and Latin dancing, achieving gold medal status. This allowed him to travel the world teaching on luxury cruise ships.

Jack met Kate Jerrett in 2000, and after several years in Halifax the couple relocated to Ajijic in 2011.  He became an integral part of the community, sponsoring students, and teaching English at the Wilkes Center. He loved playing bridge on Monday afternoons.

You could always find Jack in the kitchen putting the final touches on a delicious meal and then entertaining his guests with jokes and stories.

Jack was a Freemason, Scottish Rite, and a Shriner.

He will be remembered for his kindness, his great sense of humor, charity, perseverance, honesty, compassion, joyfulness, integrity, courage and humility.

Jack leaves behind his beloved Kate, daughter Jacquie Ross (Marlene Pankewich), son Kevin Glowe (Blendina), all of Halifax, and step-daughter Karen Glowe (Kathleen) of Vancouver, as well as three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all residing in Canada.

At Jack´s wish there will be no funeral.  A celebration of his life will be held at a future date.
