Harold Sunderland
Long-time Ajijic resident Harold (Harry) Sunderland died July 2 at his daughter’s home in Kansas City at the age of 78.
Born March 8, 1940 and raised in Marysville, Kansas, Sunderland moved to Kansas City with his high school sweetheart and wife, Lis, in the early 1960s, where they raised three children. He worked his entire career at the Kansas Department of Transportation as a geologist.
In 2006, Sunderland moved to Ajijic along with his wife, daughter and grandson. He now rejoins his life partner Lis, who passed in 2012. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him for his generosity, calm demeanor, easygoing personality, open mindedness, and down-to-earth attitude on life.
Sunderland is survived by his son Michael Sunderland of Prosper, Texas; daughter Shelly Sunderland-Trobough of Ajijic; son Scott Sunderland of Pleasant Hill, California; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family invites friends to join them at a gathering to celebrate Sunderland’s life at The Cocktail Bar (priviously Tom’s Bar), Constitución 32, Ajijic, at 4 p.m. Friday, August 3.
