Madge Loewen
Madge Loewen died surrounded by friends on Friday, September 21, at age 87.
Madge was born July 16, 1931 in Denver, Colorado, to Ray and Blanch (Merchant) Brewer. When she reached the age of 11, the family moved to Oregon. Madge attended the Bible Institute in Los Angeles, now known as BIOLA. As a young adult, the family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, where she ministered to youth at the juvenile home and city jail.
At age 28, Madge met her husband, Roy Loewen, and returned with him to settle in Okeene, Oklahoma. She was the manager of a title company and the couple raised two sons, Bob and Jimmy.
Madge enjoyed the artistry of cutting jigsaw, playing the horn and clarinet and square dancing. For many years, Madge and her husband visited lakeside when their farm land did not need tending. After Roy died she decided to live in the area permanently.
Madge was a strong supporter of Love in Action, La Ola and Hope House.
She began to seek medical care in the spring of 2018. When she realized she had lung cancer, she went to Tulsa for treatment in June. She remained active up until the last few weeks of life. In September she returned to Tulsa and decided not to have additional treatment.
A devout, kind and compassionate person, Madge will be missed by many at lakeside.
Madge was preceded in death by her husband Roy, son Bob, brother Vaughn Brewer, brother-in-law Robert (Dorothy) Loewen, sister-in-law Betty (Chris) Christianson. She is survived by her adopted son, James Ray Loewen, her brother-in-law Sam (Eva) Loewen, sister-in-law Evelyn Brewer, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Friday, October 19, 2 p.m. at Lakeside Baptist Church, Santa Margarita 147, Riberas de Pilar. Pastor Bob and Judy Hendricks are coming in for the service.
In lieu of flowers, Madge suggests donations be made to La Ola.(She recently donated large sums to Love in Action and Hope House). You may give cash or make the check out to La Ola/The Wave. Tax receipts can be given.
