Robert Lee Miller

Robert (Bob) Lee Miller passed away peacefully at his home in Ajijic on May 1, at the age of 96.

pg14bHe was born on July 16, 1928, in Nyack, New Jersey, and graduated from the University of Michigan. After World War II, Bob served for two years in the U.S. Coast Guard, stationed out of Boston, Massachusetts. He later worked in advertising on Wall Street in Manhattan before moving to Toronto in 1955 with his wife, Sally. In 1964, he built a large home for their six children in the northern part of the city.

Bob continued his career in advertising until he and Sally retired to Ajijic in 2001. They were snowbirds for 12 years before becoming permanent residents in 2013.

Bob was many things: a sailor, businessman, hockey player, tennis enthusiast, generous community member, and a devoted father and friend. He rebuilt the tennis court in his subdivision so he could walk to play, and more recently, he added a pickleball court as well.

A passionate supporter of the arts, Bob sponsored the screenings of Opera at the Met at Centro Laguna through the now-defunct Chapala Opera Guild. He also volunteered with the Lake Chapala Society and, together with Sally, supported a children’s orphanage in Jocotepec.

Bob is survived by four children—Susan, Andrew, Michael, and Amie—and his daughter-in-law Patricia, all of whom were honored to be present when he passed peacefully in his sleep. His granddaughter and grandson were also at his side.

Sally, his beloved wife of 60 years, preceded him in death in 2019, as did their children Timmy and David.

In accordance with Bob’s wishes, no service will be held.
