Something’s cooking in Puerto Vallarta

Anyone who appreciates fine dining is in for a treat this month, as the 17th International Gourmet Festival unfolds in Puerto Vallarta from November 10 to 20.

The brainchild of Thierry Blouet of Cafe des Artistes, Heinz Reize of Hotel Krystal and Silvan Müller of Nestle, the first festival was held in November 1995, with the aim of promoting Vallarta’s vibrant culinary scene on a world stage.

More than 30 internationally acclaimed guest chefs will be on hand to treat diners with different gastronomical delights, along with the best local chefs from Vallarta’s classy hotels and restaurants.

As Food Industry News writer Valerie Miller put it, “this Festival showcases Puerto Vallarta as the world class dining destination it really is.”

Among the scheduled events, the “International Gourmet Dine Around” will take place every night from 6 p.m. in all participating hotels and restaurants, with the master chefs presenting surprising creations and delicacies from all over the world. Reservations are recommended.

Other activities on offer include a night of paella, sangria and other traditional Spanish cuisine, buffet brunches, cooking demonstrations, cheese and wine tasting sessions and “gourmet safari” tours of various local restaurants. Prices range from 380 to 2,460 pesos.
