Investigations continue into Costa Alegre killings

Some progress has been made in the investigation into the murder of Canadian expatriate Ron Lloyd MacKintosh, 64, in late October, a spokesperson for the Jalisco Attorney General’s Office told the Guadalajara Reporter this week.

Lino Gonzalez hinted that “clues” had been discovered in the case but as yet no arrests have been made. He would not elaborate any further.

MacKintosh’s decomposing body was found tied to a tree in a field one kilometer outside of Barra de Navidad two weeks after he was reported missing. He had been strangled to death with a belt.

Meanwhile, two 18-year-olds are in custody in Guadalajara charged with the murder of Robin Wood, 68, who was shot to death during a home invasion in Villa Obregon (near Melaque) on January 3.

Ernesto Manuel Esparzo (known as El Pechocas) and Jorge Luís Murillo Torres (El Sapo) of Ciuhuatlan were arrested less than two weeks after the crime and admitted their role in the attempted robbery at Wood’s home.

The two men claimed the shot that killed Wood was fired by a third assailant who is still at large.  Gonzalez declined to name the suspect. The trial is ongoing.
