US tourist dies after hotel fall

A U.S. tourist died in a suspected suicide after falling ten stories at a Puerto Vallarta hotel last Friday.

Stephanie Carson, 35, was on vacation with her husband Stephen, 40, at the Dreams Resort and Spa just south of Vallarta. She fell from the balcony of their room on the tenth floor at around 6 p.m. and died from severe skull damage.

Her husband said he was taking a shower at the time of the incident and found his wife, who suffered depression, was no longer in the room when he returned from the bathroom.

Local authorities quickly ruled out foul play and are investigating whether the death was a suicide or an accident. Carson had been taking prescription medication and Spanish-language daily Vallarta Opina reported that she suffered from schizophrenia.
