Bucerias gears up for 2nd annual street festival

The 4th Annual Bucerias Street Festival  takes place on Lazaro Cardenas (block between Juarez and Galeano) from Wednesday, January 23 to Friday, January 25.

The festival has three main features: a competition of chalk artists creating their artwork directly on the street, the Taste of Riviera Nayarit and a craft sale.

Wednesday morning, the block will be closed to allow the chalk artists to start on their creations. The theme will be “Sol de Mexico.”

The prize for first place is 5,000 pesos, with 3,000 and 2,000 pesos for second and third.  Prize money is being donated by local solar energy company eSun Energy. The winners will be announced on Thursday afternoon at the conclusion of the competition.

On Wednesday and Thursday from 2-6 p.m., many local restaurants will be set up in the street, selling samples of their specialties. There will be plenty of seating, beer, wine and soft drink sales and live entertainment.

Friday morning, the chalk artists return to conduct a workshop for local children. Lazaro Cardenas will still be closed to traffic, allowing great photo opportunities of the finished work and of the kids’ creations. There will also be food for sale.

Raffle tickets will be sold on Wednesday and Thursday to benefit the Manos de Amor children’s shelter. With a top prize of 5,000 pesos, as well as numerous other prizes, there will be some very happy winners.  Festival proceeds (after expenses) will benefit PEACE.
