Puerto Vallarta trash collectors kick up a stink

With waste collectors on strike for five days, around a thousand tons of trash built up on the streets of Puerto Vallarta this week.

The city’s garbage collectors were not working due to a legal dispute between the Envir Eau de Mexico waste disposal company and the municipal government.

Envir Eau de Mexico was granted a concession six years ago by then Mayor Gustavo Gonzalez Villaseñor, but the current Mayor Ramon Guerrero Martinez is unhappy with the concession terms.

Trash collection resumed Thursday, although authorities said it wold take several days to clear the backlog.
