Vallarta Pride is huge success

Puerto Vallarta was awash in visitors, color and diversity for the third annual Vallarta Pride event from May 17 to 25.

“This year’s event brought many aspects of the community together,” said organizer Bill Hevener. “There were Americans, Canadians, Mexicans, the wealthy, not so rich, and those who are not bilingual, yet everyone got together and had a wonderful time.”

Approximately 10,000 people gathered to take part in various events throughout week, including the popular parade, which featured many festive floats, dancers and decorated vehicles and lasted for just over an hour. The best float award went to Casa Cupula.

The Andrew Christian models were also a big hit with their fashion show and other appearances.

“A favorite experience of mine was when Morgana Love, a renowned transgender opera singer, got up and sang spontaneously at a restaurant and brought the house down,” said Hevener. “Another great night was when singer Amy Armstrong belted out a number at another restaurant and also received a standing ovation.”

The 4th Vallarta Pride 2016 is scheduled for May 23 to 30, 2016. There will be a bevy of local, national and international celebrities and a large variety of cultural events, organizers promise. For more information check out VallartaPride.com.
