PV nixes Uber

The city of Puerto Vallarta, has decided to bar Uber and other private car services from operating within its metropolitan boundaries.

Ramón Guerrero, Movimiento Cuidadano party member and former mayor, cited a couple of reasons for the ban.

First and foremost, he said, it would jeopardize the livelihoods of 2,200 taxi drivers who ferry tourists and locals alike around town.

Second, Guerrero points out that while Jalisco has made a deal with Uber, it doesn’t extend to the neighboring state of Nayarit, a reality that he says could lead to conflict around the border between the two states. In addition, Jalisco’s accord with Uber only functions within Guadalajara’s metropolitan area.
