San Pancho to host surf festival

San Pancho, Sayulita’s more mild-mannered neighbor in the state of Nayarit, will host a three-day surf competition the weekend of July 21-23.

It’s been five years since The Mexican Surf Open has graced the golden beaches and glassy waters of San Pancho (a colloquial term for San Francisco).

The event is being under-written by the Surf Association of Nayarit and the Surf Federation of Mexico. 100,000 pesos in prize money will be awarded to winners in various categories.

The short board-only competition will be divided into professional male, professional female (500-peso participation fee required for both) and “City Boys” (i.e., amateur, 300 pesos).

The event, free for all spectators, will include live music from Los Minions, Los Vikingos del Norte, DJ Funky Kong and Mi Banda Mexicano de Casimiro Zamudio.  Go to the AMS San Pancho Facebook page for more information.
