Authorities in the coastal municipalities of Cihuatlán and La Huerta have called on state authorities to issue a state of emergency in the wake of last week’s passage of Tropical Storm Hernán, which caused extensive material damages in the region, although fortunately no loss of life.
The designation would free up federal funds for the cleanup and repair operation that got under way immediately after the storm had passed.
“We are going to work tirelessly to repair the damaged infrastructure,” Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro said during a tour of the affected area on Tuesday.
Crews have been hard at work restoring power and clearing roads blocked by landslides, as well as cleaning up mud-ridden streets in around 40 communities, many of which were cut off by the storm.
