For love, use a seatbelt

Following the hike in fines for traveling the roads of Jalisco without a seatbelt, the state government is rolling out a new campaign to remind citizens to buckle up on the road.

The “Por amor usa el cinturón” (For love, use a seatbelt) signs will be appearing all over the city for the rest of February and during March. The campaign features cardboard cutouts of police officers motioning “halt” as well as some encouraging statistics on the benefits of strapping in. Additionally, police will be setting up stations at various points in the city, checking and warning drivers and passengers to buckle up in the next few blocks. Whether drivers will pick up the habit when they aren’t being watched is another matter. The fine for not using a seat belt increased from 60 pesos to 605  pesos last week.
