Hurricane Bud falls flat

Hurricane Bud turned out to be more of a damp squib, leaving not a trace of devastation in its wake after it struck Jalisco late last week.

“There is no damage to any part of the state, there are no deaths or injuries,” confirmed Trinidad Lopez Rivas, head of State Civil Protection, once the storm had passed.

It is just as well, because state authorities have yet to pay out all of the emergency relief funds promised after Hurricane Jova ravaged Jalisco last October.

The badly damaged municipality of Cihuatlan has still only received 60 percent of the funds pledged by Governor Emilio Gonzalez as compensation to the victims. State secretaries say this is because there are currently “no resources” available.
