The Instituto Jalisciense de Asistencia Social (IJAS) has issued a call for candidates for its prize for the most deserving charity of the year. This year’s prize will total 300,000 pesos, courtesy of a private benefactor.
To be considered for the prize, the organization must be registered with IJAS. The full details of the prize can be be viewed at www.premioijas.com.mx. Submissions of candidates must be no later than August 30. The winner will be chosen by a panel of three, as yet unnamed, judges.
The winner’s names will be inscribed in the IJAS monument located inside the Chapalita Glorieta.
There are 692 charities registered with IJAS, the decentralized institution that is responsible for assisting the state’s non-profit groups. Sixty-five of these are children’s shelters. However, many children’s homes are not registered despite state laws passed in February that oblige them to do so.
