Competing in the North and Central American Championships in St. John, New Brunswick August 9 to 12 are 15 Jalisco athletes aged 60 to 82 years old under the DIF Jalisco banner.

Sports include: 100 meters flat track, 10,000 meters march, discus, hammer throw, javelin and pentathlon. 82-year old Ernestina Ramirez Garcia of Ayotlan, Jalisco, is the world champion of the 100 meter race. She has competed in senior sports for 22 years. Her trainer Alejandra Lopez Palacios is proud of her team. “The four best in the world trained with me,” she said. They are Toño Tejada (now retired from the competitions), Ernestina, Maria Ramirez Bautista, 95 and current world champion of the 5 and 10 kilometer march in route and track, and Modesta Ramirez, who has died.
