Phony schools offer pirate diplomas

“Fake schools” in Jalisco have been exploiting students looking to finish their studies quickly and at a low cost.

So far this year, the Jalisco Ministry of Education has received  20 complaints about “fake schools” that provide students with invalid certificates. Most of these are high school students hoping to enter a university who have their documents returned by the institutions because they are invalid. “We are aware of schools that give a code that has nothing to do with official bodies,” said Lorena Josefina Rodríguez Castro, the general director of accreditation at Jalisco’s education secretariat. Students with certificates from non-accredited organizations are not regarded as qualified even if they have completed a course of studies. “Such students should go to the police to present a formal complaint for fraud,” the official said.

Students have also been advised to exercise caution when responding to posts on social network sites, as many of the schools offering false documents advertise online.
