Humanitarian crisis not over yet

The general public often needs constant reminding that tragedies and disasters which occurred less than a month ago are ongoing problems.

pg4With that in mind, the head of Red Cross Guadalajara, Liliana Rodriguez, stresses that both donations of food and volunteers are still needed for their operations aiding earthquake victims in central and southern Mexico.

“We’re soliciting right now more than anything volunteers, helpers to assist in packing supplies to be sent to those in need,” said Rodriguez.  “We need about 40 people to work four-hour shifts.”

Rodriguez also has a shopping list ready for those who aren’t able to volunteer their time.

“We especially need canned tuna, sardines, beans, salt, sugar - those last three in kilo units,” itemized the Red Cross director.

People interesting in volunteering or donating may do so at Red Cross headquarters abutting Parque Morelos in Guadalajara’s centro historico (San Felipe 7). Donations can also be left at the Chapala branch (Gonzalez Gallo 1, next to Cristiania Park). Both are open 24 hours a day.
