Nine agricultural laborers died last week when the vehicle transporting them to an accommodation shelter plunged into a reservoir on the highway between Autlan and El Grullo.
Police reports say 17 workers were traveling in the 1998 model Ford Econoline van at the time of the accident. The unofficial cause of death, according to news sources, was by drowning.
Five passengers were treated for injuries, while the remainder were unharmed. The driver of the vehicle was detained but released following the agreement of family members of the deceased. While he is unlikely to face criminal charges, he may still be financially liable for damages.
