Jalisco ranks number one in vasectomies

Jalisco has many things to distinguish itself on the national and international stage, be they iconic cultural exports (tequila, mariachi) culinary treasures (torta ahogada, birria) or economic achievements (currently no. 1 nationwide in employment).

For eleven years running, the state has also maintained its position as the country’s record holder in vasectomies.

Roughly 25,700 of the contraceptive procedure have been performed in Jalisco since 1994, the majority of them within the walls of Guadalajara’s Hospital Materno Infantil Esperanza Lopez Mateos, two blocks from Parque Agua Azul.

According to Francisco Rafael Morales Magaña, director of the vasectomy program at the aforementioned hospital, despite widespread fears about the procedure, the number of men seeking the operation is on the rise.  He also mentioned that, thus far, not a single operation has failed.
