Officers from the Mexican Navy have arrested the wife of one of Mexico’s most wanted drug capos in an operation carried out in an upmarket suburb of the Guadalajara metropolitan area.
Rosalinda “N”, the spouse of Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera, was detained Saturday, May 26 outside a 7-11 store near the Puerto de Hierro subdivision, where she apparently lived in a luxury residence. No shots were fired during the arrest, and Rosalinda “N” acted with restraint, a video posted on Youtube shows.
Oseguera is regarded be the highest figure in the Cartel Jalisco Nuevo Generacion (CNGJ), considered both north and south of the border as the most violent narcotics trafficking/criminal organization in Mexico. U.S. authorities have placed a $US5 million bounty on his head.
In a press conference, Mexican Interior Minister Alfonso Navarrete Prida said Rosalinda “N” is accused of “administering the economic resources” of the CNGJ, as well as laundering the profits from its drug trafficking operation.
Since 2015, Rosalinda “N” had sought to protect herself from arrest by filing a series of “amparos” (legal injunctions) with various judges and courts. Most of these were apparently rejected because at the time, there were no outstanding criminal charges against her. Reports suggest that she grew overconfident and took the risk on Saturday evening of venturing outside of her home.
Unlike her husband and other family members, Rosalinda “N” has not appeared on U.S. Treasury Department lists of people linked to criminal organizations in Mexico. However, five of her nephews and nieces were named in an October 2016 report.
