Chapultepec hosts food fest this weekend

The Encuentro Gastronómico (food festival), showcasing produce from Jalisco,will take place on the city’s Paseo Chapultepec, Friday, September 7, through Sunday, September 9, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day.

Organized by the state’s Rural Development Secretariat (Seder), this year’s event is “dedicated” to the chile de Yahualica, a regional spice which received denomination of origin status in March of this year.

A large number of producers and distributors will set up stands along Avenida Chapultepec’s pedestrian walkway to display and sell their merchandize.

Among special events planned is a “degustación” on Saturday, September 8, when students from several of Guadalajara’s culinary schools will offer tastings of their creations, from 2 p.m. On Sunday, at 11 a.m., a competition to find the most innovative food product made in Jalisco will be held.

Sunday visitors to the zone can also take in the Trocadero antiques market at Avenida Mexico (until 3 p.m.), and stroll along traffic-free Chapultepec and Vallarta avenues (until 2 p.m.).
