Driving without a license to get much more costly

Fines for driving without a current Jalisco driver’s license are to increase significantly if the State Congress approves an initiative presented this week by the legislature’s Mobility and Transport Commission.

The current fine for driving without a license is a mere 80 pesos. This will skyrocket to 3,800 pesos under the new regulations.

The new rules will also allow transgressors a time frame of ten days to obtain a driver’s license. If successful, the entire fine will be waived, just as long as the deadline has not elapsed.

According to Jonadab Martínez García, president of the Mobility and Transport Commission, only 30 percent of people driving on Jalisco’s roads actually have a current license.

The new law will also give traffic cops the power to remove vehicles from circulation that are being driven by drivers without licenses.

In conjunction with the new regulations, Martínez hopes that additional modules for license renewals can be installed at city malls and plazas.
