Traffic cops foil attempted truck theft

Agents from the Jalisco Traffic Police stopped a would-be auto thief in his tracks as he attempted to make a getaway Tuesday, July 23, shortly after presumably stealing a late-model Nissan pickup on Calle Juárez in downtown Chapala.

Thanks to a prompt alert by the son of the vehicle’s owner, who witnessed the crime, officers managed to corner the middle-aged male suspect as he tried to escape driving the wrong way along Calle Degollado, barely two blocks away from the spot where the compact truck had been parked.

Immediately after his capture, the accused offender was turned over to Chapala’s Ministerio Público (public prosecutors office) for investigation and processing.
