Etzatlán’s huge blanket of color

The Guinness organization has credited the Jalisco town of Etzatlán for setting a new world record for the largest knitted hanging blanket (pabellón de tejido) ever made.

The final work was created by 199 women and one man, who took eight months to elaborate the work, and stitched together from 8,248 separate multi-colored hexagonal pieces of synthetic fiber. Weighing 824 kilograms, the blanket took 16 hours to mount above the town’s principal streets at a height of 3.75 meters.

The project ran in conjunction with Etzatlán’s annual fiestas, held each year at the end of October.
