Flu season around the corner

With winter just around the corner, Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro has called on the population to get flu shots and avoid a health crisis similar to the recent dengue epidemic in the state.

pg5bAround 800,000 flu shots arrived in the state this week and Alfaro was one of the first to get the jab.  They are given free of charge to everyone (including foreigners) at Secretaria de Salud (SSJ) health clinics, as well as the Instituto Mexicana de Seguro Social (IMSS).

According to Harvard Health, many experts are predicting an active, and possibly severe, flu season. This projection is based on data from Australia, where the flu season is just wrapping up. Australia was hit early and hard by flu this year: over 300,000 patients had laboratory-confirmed influenza, a record number of cases.
