Confirmed Covid-19 cases, deaths in Jalisco remain steady

As of 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, Jalisco had registered 178 confirmed cases of Covid-19, with 11 fatalities.

The number of deaths in the state has remained stable for five consecutive days.

State and federal health officials acknowledge that these numbers only give an indication of the rate of contagion and do not reflect the total amount of people infected, which is certainly much higher. This is because most of the testing is being carried out on patients receiving attention at either hospitals or clinics.  The majority of people suffering from minor Covid-19 symptoms have been advised to stay at home and are not being tested. And any tests done at private labs do not count toward the official total.

In addition, as many as 25 percent of people infected with Covid-19 may be asymptomatic, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control. No effort has yet been made to identify and isolate asymptomatic people in Jalisco.

As of Thursday, Jalisco stepped up its testing strategy, with modules installed at various points in the state.

The latest official map of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Jalisco shows a new red dot appearing on Lake Chapala’s southern shoreline, representing a new case of the disease registered as of April 14 in Tizapán el Alto.

The number of confirmed cases reported in Ocotlán remains at one, while those detected in Jamay jumped from one on April 13 to four the following day, raising the figures for lakeshore municipalities located in Sanitary Región IV to a current total of six.
