Jalisco has ample Covid-19 bed capacity

A key indicator of the pace of Covid-19 transmission in Jalisco is that 88 percent of the state’s hospital beds designated for infected patients remain unused, state health officials say.

As the projected rise in hospitalizations materializes over the next few weeks, Covid-19 bed capacity can be increased to more than 3,000, to include ten regional and 16 community hospitals, as well as an entire private hospital in Guadalajara that has been commandeered by the state.

Figures released by the federal Ministry of Health (SSJ) Thursday evening show Jalisco to be in ninth place for Covid-19 cases, with 254 confirmed cases, a long way behind the top three: Mexico City (3,157), Estado de Mexico (1,734) and Baja California (1,075).
