Testing lab opens in Puerto Vallarta

The University of Guadalajara has opened a fourth Covid-19 testing laboratory at its campus in Puerto Vallarta, the Centro Universitario de la Costa.

The facility will have the capacity to carry out 36 PCR tests a day.

Puerto Vallarta has recorded the third highest number of Covid-19 cases in Jalisco (48) and five deaths.  The university is also investigating the possibility of opening other labs at two other campuses, the Universitario de la Ciénega in Ocotlan and the Centro Universitario del Sur in Ciudad Guzman.  Last month, three UdG labs opened in the Guadalajara metropolitan area, a move made in tandem with the state government in order to obtain a wider appreciation of the scale of the disease’s transmission in the state.

Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro traveled to the town of Ameca this week, to oversee the opening of a section of the regional hospital that has been converted to attend to Covid-19 patients at a cost of 33 million pesos.  Eight people from Ameca have tested positive for the disease.
