Beer shortage looms

Although Jalisco authorities have shied away from introducing a “Ley Seca” (dry law) in the state, a beer shortage is looming on the horizon, reports indicate.

pg6aBreweries in Mexico are considered “non-essential” and have been shut down for almost a month as part of mitigation measures to reduce transmission of Covid-19.

Liquor stores in Jalisco are also closed, but beer is available at convenience stories and supermarkets.  Supplies, however, are running low and deliveries to some outlets have been cut back, sector representatives admit. A lightning survey this week at a few Guadalajara outlets revealed discrepancies, with shelves starting to look bare at some outlets (Fresko), but well-stocked at others (Oxxo).
